On June 21 and June 22, the WPI joined Arkhênum as part of two webinars with fellow speakers from the American Battle Monuments Commission, History Associates Incorporated and Arkhênum.
We spoke about collection preservation, digitization, online sharing and so much more, related to collections and subject matter as diverse as art History and the legacies of the First and Second World Wars.
The WPI Digital Projects: art historical research for the digital generation
The Wildenstein Plattner Institute is pleased to present the WPI Digital Projects, a recently released web platform and major contribution to art historical research. The WPI Digital Projects contains three portals: the WPI Digital Archives, which feature archival collections documenting the work of French dealers, collectors, and artists from the 18th to the 20th centuries; the Sales Catalogues Database, which presents a selection of 11,000+ sales catalogues pre-1945; and the Digital Publications section with dynamic online publications such as Gauguin: Catalogue Raisonné of the Paintings 1891–1903. The WPI partnered with Arkhênum on the scanning of over 4 million pages, or approximately 2,593 linear feet of documents, 60,000 which are now freely accessible to the public across the three portals. The WPI Digital Projects is the culmination of a four-year project led by the WPI’s teams in France, Germany, and the United States.
