ICRA hosted an online webinar entitled Building the Gauguin Catalogue Raisonné: A Digital Publication on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 together with the Wildenstein Plattner Institute, Inc. and Navigating Art. The webinar comprised of two sessions, each lasting approximately one hour including time for questions, with a short interval between them.
Session 1:
The first session centred on the issues and obstacles that have arisen during the researching, writing and publishing online of the new volume of the Gauguin catalogue raisonné. Jennifer Gimblett, Project Manager and Senior Researcher for the catalogue raisonné’s digital volume, Caitlin Sweeney, Director of Digital Publications, and Elizabeth Gorayeb, Executive Director of the Wildenstein Plattner Institute, Inc., discussed the project while showcasing the new digital publication.
There was then a Q&A session with Sylvie Crussard, lead researcher with the Wildenstein Plattner Institute for the Gauguin catalogue raisonné
Session 2:
The technical innovations of the digital Gauguin catalogue raisonné were addressed by Nicolai Bohn and Martin Lorenz of Navigating Art, the developers of this software. Navigating Art is a ‘Software-as-a-Service’ provider that offers a new experience for digitizing, publishing, and exploring art. Together, they introduced their software and tour customisable web features they designed and built for its users.
This event was made possible through the ICRA, a not-for-profit members’ association that brings together those involved in the creation, writing, editing, designing and production of catalogues raisonnés.
The ICRA facilitates collaboration between projects, the exchange of information about the technical and practical aspects of making a catalogue raisonné, the mentoring of the next generation of scholars, and the support of artists, their estates, collectors and the market on the challenges and responsibilities of creating catalogues raisonnés.
