Digital Archives & Library

The Wildenstein Plattner Institute maintains various archival resources, many of which have been digitized and are available on our website. Included among our holdings are artists’ papers, dealer stock books, historic photo collections, and the scholarly dossiers of suspended catalogue raisonné research projects sponsored by the Wildenstein Institute. The Digital Library currently offers access to more than 25,000 digitized resources, which focus on paintings, drawings, sculpture, and prints by European artists active from the 18th through the 20th century. The majority of the collection features over 24,000 historical sales catalogues dating from the 17th century to 1945. The sales catalogues, previously hosted on the Sales Catalogues Database, are now fully integrated into the Digital Library.

Also offered here are links to the WPI’s Oral History series, featuring unprecedented firsthand accounts from art historians, archivists, gallerists, and others with close connections to WPI’s research projects. These recorded resources are also available for download on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
